‘Lauretum’ was officially opened in May 2000. It is the home base of a large, unique and very valuable collection of baytree trees in various shapes and sizes. They were cultivated in barrels; each of them is a solitary specimen that is at least ten years old. Some of them are almost ‘centenarians’.
These exclusive baytrees winter in the main greenhouse and the outbuildings.

The spacious buildings and the specially designed terraces allow us to arrange the plants in a creative manner in the winter and the summer months, illustrating them throughout the year.

We provide space and atmosphere both inside and outside. The location, surrounded by rural greenery not far from the Belgian coast and only 10 km from Bruges (traditionally a ‘Mecca’ of baytree cultivation), ensures that this project tempts one to do more than just exhibit the baytrees…

Lauretum is placing the baytree back on its pedestal worldwide and at the same time drawing attention to the region.
